Wild Test - Price, Report & Preparation
The widal test is a diagnostic test for confirming the presence of bacteria causing typhoid, called Salmonella typhi and paratyphi. The widal test is used to detect typhoid infection caused by consuming food and water contaminated with Salmonella typhi bacteria. This test is becoming increasingly important due to the rise of typhoid infections in flooded areas and areas receiving heavy rains in the country. The Widal test can help early detect and treat typhoid infections. If you have symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain, seek medical attention so that you can be evaluated for diseases like typhoid and treated appropriately.
A Widal test can be done with the help of a blood sample. The blood sample of a patient with typhoid has antibodies against the proteins coating the Salmonella typhi or paratyphoid bacteria. The antibodies attacking the typhoid bacteria can be indirectly visualized in the Widal test, making it very simple to detect the presence of the pathogenic bacteria. It is a simple and famous test for checking for typhoid infections.

When should a person take the Widal Test?
A Widal test should be done on people who show one or more of the following symptoms:
1. A fever that exceeds 101 F.
2. Headaches
3. Stomach pain
4. Diahrrea
5. Rose spots are the name given to red spots over the chest and abdomen.
6. Dehydration
7. fatigue
8. The infection has lasted for a long time
These symptoms could indicate the presence of Salmonella typhi bacteria and, thus, a typhoid infection.
Procedure for the Widal Test:
In the Widal test, the technician will collect the blood sample from the vein of the forearm or the cubital fossa and label it to send it to the laboratory for further testing. The sample is processed in the laboratory, and the test is conducted to check for agglutination. Agglutination is the clumping of proteins due to a reaction between the antigen presented in the test and the antibodies present in the blood due to the infection.
The test aims to check the rise in the quantity of anti-typhoid antibodies in the blood against proteins in the typhoid Bacteria, namely ‘O’ and ‘H’ antigens. If the rise in the number of antibodies against proteins ‘O’ and ‘H’ is significant, then the person being tested has typhoid. If the rise is insignificant, the patient must be evaluated for other infections such as cholera, shigellosis, enterotoxin E. coli, inflammatory bowel disease, etc.

What are the types of Widal tests?
There are two types of Widal tests based on the medium in which the test takes place.
1. Tube agglutination test: if the samples are tested in tubes and agglutination takes place in the tube, then
2. Slide agglutination test: if the serum is tested for antibodies on the slide, it is called a slide agglutination test.
