Omicron Bf7 Variant

Omicron Bf7 Variant

Omicron Bf.7 is the new coronavirus strain driving China’s fresh COVID wave and threatening to take over the world. It is a subvariant of SARS-COVID OMICRON BA. 5. It is different from the parent strain because it spreads even more quickly, has a shorter period before symptoms show, known as the incubation period, and has some other new symptoms in addition to the previous one. Only 4 cases of Bf.7 infections have been detected in India, two from Orissa and the rest from Gujarat. Although this variant is still just entering India, it is already making waves in the US, UK, and other European countries. It could potentially cause a peak in COVID cases in India and the world, but it remains to be seen.

According to prominent scientists in India, however, the new omicron variant might not be such a significant threat because of the herd immunity obtained via the delta and the first COVID wave. However, there is still a chance of the virus infecting already infected and vaccinated individuals by the immune escape mechanism.

The Bf.17 infections are more prevalent among immunocompromised individuals like older adults, young people, and people with chronic diseases and weak immune systems.

What are the Symptoms of Bf7 patients?

The main symptoms of the B17 patients are similar to previous COVID-19 infections, although they might vary in onset, duration, and intensity. The following can be some of the symptoms

  1. Fever
  2. Running nose
  3. Cough
  4. Cold
  5. Shivering
  6. Sore throat
  7. Rashes
  8. Diarrhea
  9. Nausea

The infection has a different feeling every time for each patient. The omicron variant is less likely to cause severe infection with hospitalization and is much milder. It can also cause uncontrolled diabetes and the worsening of other chronic diseases. It may be aggressive in immunocompromised patients.

The winter months are a season where colds and cases of flu are widespread; however, please do not ignore any of the OMICRON symptoms and get yourself tested if tested positive, please practice self-isolation for atleast five days to avoid infecting your near and dear ones. You can also opt for home-based COVID testing services from trusted medical services portals like Medintu.
