How can we prevent Covid third wave in India?

Covid third wave

The Covid-19 outbreak in India is a part of the ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease. The Covid-19 second wave in India saw a massive jump in coronavirus cases and deaths. People were in a grip of panic and fear and posed a big challenge in front of the country’s medical infrastructure to fulfill everyone’s healthcare needs.

The second wave of coronavirus pandemic has given many sleepless nights; but it has also shown us that, by following few precautions we can be safe from the disease. It’s high time that we learn from the second covid wave experience and prevent this disease to spread.

The severe version of the Covid-19 ‘Delta variant’ is the ‘Delta plus’ variant; which is expected to initiate coronavirus third wave in India. Below are the 5 precautions we can follow to reduce the severity of the Covid third wave delta plus variant.

Prioritize vaccination

  • It is believed that coronavirus third wave symptoms will be more severe than the first two waves. Therefore, people must get vaccinated to stop the Covid-19 delta plus variant spread its tentacles in India.
  • Even with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination, your immunity can be improved; if infected you will have mild symptoms and hospitalization can be avoided.
  • Vaccination produces Covid-19 antibodies in the body; these antibodies protect us from coronavirus infection. Once you are vaccinated, the risk of transmitting the infection to other people also decreases.

Wear a mask and use a sanitizer

  • Always wear a mask whenever you move out of your house. Double masking is preferred to protect against the deadly delta variant.
  • When you are outside and you touch anything, it’s better to sanitize your hands. Remember to carry a hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes wherever you travel.
  • Avoid touching your mask or face frequently with uncleaned or unsanitized hands. Frequently wash your hands with soap to avoid infection.
  • When coughing or sneezing, cover the mouth with a handkerchief.

Maintain social distancing behavior

  • The Covid-19 disease is transmitted through the tiny droplets released into the air from coughs and sneezes.
  • The disease can also spread through everyday contacts, like shaking hands and sharing items. Few people who do not have Covid-19 symptoms (asymptomatic) can still spread the disease.
  • Coronavirus being a contagious disease, it is safe to maintain at least 6 feet distance to avoid viral transmission.
  • Social distancing is essential for cancer patients and other individuals having a weak immune system.

Obey lockdown rules

  • Many Indian states have imposed lockdowns and restrictions to contain the Covid-19 crisis.
  • Lockdowns and restrictions are extremely crucial to stop community spread and reducing the number of cases of the Covid-19 third wave.
  • When they are followed properly, the Covid-19 curve can be flattened quickly. If there is a lockdown or restriction present in your area, follow it.
  • If we obey the Covid-19 lockdown rules sincerely; avoid unnecessarily going out, stay away from social and religious festivals gatherings, and stay at home; only then it’s possibly able to halt Covid-19 third wave in India.

Be aware of symptoms and know how to act

  • When we first came heard about the coronavirus outbreak, we didn’t know about its symptoms exactly.
  • But now, after the first two waves, we can identify Covid-19 symptoms very well. Be updated on the list of symptoms of the Covid-19 3rd wave, and be aware of what to do if you experience them.
  •  If you are Covid-19 positive, then immediately home quarantine yourself, to avoid spreading it to other individuals.
  • If there are other people in your home, self-isolate yourself in your room, don’t go out. Have someone leave food outside your door.
  • Be in contact with your doctor on phone on how to take care of yourself and medications.
