Hemoglobin test at home in Bangalore

Hemoglobin, as we are all aware, is the chemical that gives blood its red colour. In actuality, hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells (RBC). Our RBCs transport oxygen from our lungs to other bodily organs. Therefore, various organs and systems may have severe problems as a result of hemoglobin deprivation.

The amount of hemoglobin in our blood can be measured with a hemoglobin test. Even if the problem is directly tied to a blood illness, if it is not identified in a timely manner, it may result in other health issues. Anemia confirmation is the main goal of a hemoglobin test. In Bangalore, a blood count test is typically done in conjunction with a hemoglobin test for a more thorough evaluation.

What is a hemoglobin test?

The protein molecule known as hemoglobin, also abbreviated as HB or HGB, is found in red blood cells and is responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissues and carbon dioxide back to the lungs. Four connected protein molecules, known as globulin chains, make up hemoglobin. Two alpha-globulin chains and two beta-globulin chains make up the typical adult hemoglobin molecule. The hemoglobin molecule in foetuses and young children primarily consists of two alpha chains and two gamma chains; beta chains are uncommon. Gamma chains gradually give way to beta chains as the baby grows, forming the adult hemoglobin structure.

Preparation for Hemoglobin Test

You don’t need to make any kind of preparations before having your hemoglobin tested. Your blood will be drawn, and a machine will be used to conduct the test. You must continue fasting if the same blood will be used to check other blood counts. Inform the doctor in advance if the patient who is undergoing the test has received a transfusion. Wearing sleeveless or short sleeves will make it easier to administer the test when you go in for it. Make sure to schedule an appointment before having your hemoglobin checked.

Uses for Hemoglobin Test

The expert typically draws blood from a vein for the test. A tiny needle can be used to prick the heel of an infant to obtain blood. An elastic band is wrapped around the upper arm to apply pressure and cause the veins to expand with blood before the blood is taken from the vein. The skin is then treated with antiseptic before the needle is inserted and the blood is collected from the vein. The band and needle are then eliminated after this treatment. To halt the blood, the specialist will apply cotton or a bandage.

It is suggested that:

  • Anaemia must be detected
  • To determine hemoglobin levels prior to and after a blood transfusion
  • To assess the response to anaemia or polycythaemia treatment
  • In the event of excessive blood loss as a result of an injury or surgical procedure
  • If an inherited blood disorder runs in your family

The Haemoglobin (Hb) test is used to determine:

  • The Haemoglobin test determines the amount of protein in your red blood cells’ haemoglobin.
  • Haemoglobin (Hb) is a protein found in red blood cells that transports oxygen from the lungs to body tissues and exchanges it for carbon dioxide.
  • It was measured in grammes per deciliter (g/dL) or grammes per litre (g/L) of blood.
  • Haemoglobin’s primary function is to transport oxygen to RBC cells throughout the body. It is also important in transporting CO2 from the organs and tissues back to the lungs, where it is frequently exhaled.

After the blood sample is collected, the reports will take about 6 hours to complete.
