Dr. Roy is a very experienced surgeon with nineteen years of full-time work at busy general surgical units in the region’s two main hospitals. His practice is mainly managing complicated polytrauma cases, traditional GI operations, and peripheral vascular interventions. In particular, he is keen on minimal access surgery (MAS) as demonstrated by the 12,000 MAS procedures he has done so far, which range from abdominal to thoracic surgeries.
In addition to standard laparoscopic procedures, Dr Roy has a lot of experience in complex surgical procedures like laparoscopic small bowel and colectomy. He was also a key figure in setting up one of the first video-assisted thoracoscopic surgical centres (VATS) in India where he has since carried out various VATS surgeries including mediastinoscopy for lymphadenopathy, lung resections following pleural biopsy findings, decortication in cases of empyema thoracis, thymectomy targeting myasthenia gravis or non functionally active thymomas as well as lung volume reduction.
The innovative technique of transfacial umbilical multiport laparoscopy (TUMP) has been employed by Dr. Roy to carry out successful cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and hernia operations in Northern India, and is also credited with setting the stage for single-incision laparoscopic surgery in the region.
